Bolivian Mission Active in Community Health

Thanks to a new nationwide agreement between the Bolivian government and the Bolivian Methodist Church the mission is ideally poised to forge regional agreements with the local departments of health and education. Under this new agreement we hope to revitalize the existing Promotores de Buena Salud (mission-trained volunteer public health workers) Program.

The agreement should also allow us to expand experiential learning opportunities for the two to four graduate students from the University of Illinois’ School of Public Health who will join us in June and July to fulfill their practicum requirements. At about the same time, Claire Ault, who we know through our home church in Downers Grove, will complete a 10-week, for-credit internship. Majoring in Ecosystem Restoration and Management

and Minoring in Spanish, Claire will help us develop and improve the mission’s agricultural projects.
Several mission teams are in the early stages of planning visits, including a group of young adults from the Northern Illinois Conference of the United Methodist Church. If you or someone you know might be interested in joining this team, please contact Rev. Dr. Barbara Javore at bjavore@yahoo.com or call (847) 828-7700 (cell) for more info.
We love our jobs, and keenly look forward to the arrival of more helping hands, hearts and minds!
