Improving Education for Disabled Students: Santa Cruz, Bolivia, summer 2013
VIM mission trip to Santa Cruz, Bolivia, in late July/early August of 2013, to conduct a conference on improving educational opportunities for disabled students. At the request of the Principal of the Walter Henry Educational Complex (a Methodist school) we will conduct a multi-school 3-day conference to increase the inclusion of disabled students in Methodist schools and provide practical teaching techniques, materials and facilities for special needs students and to better educate teachers, administrators, students and families about disabilities. After returning home, we hope to continue the relationship and mentoring through emails, technical assistance, information exchange, Skype, social media, future mission trips, etc.
We need help in developing the materials and program, and we need persons to conduct travel to Bolivia to conduct the conference. Those should have knowledge of and interest in the education of disabled students, including special needs teachers, social workers, public health personnel, and, industrial arts teachers. Youth who have an interest in special needs education are also welcome to help out in the classrooms and conference. Knowledge of Spanish is not required. We will be accompanied by Susie Henry, former long-time Methodist missionary to Santa Cruz.
